Devastation in Remote Villages
Yemeni armed forces and local human rights monitors reported that Houthi forces launched a wave of ballistic missile and artillery attacks against residential areas across Taiz Governorate on November 1 and 2, 2026, causing widespread destruction and dozens of civilian casualties. Among the hardest-hit locations was the remote village of Adoud in the Sabir al-Mawadim district, situated approximately 13 kilometers from active combat lines. Marketplace Missile Strike in al-Makh'af
The escalation intensified with a ballistic missile strike on the village of al-Makh'af in the al-Aqrood area of al-Misrakh district, south of Taiz city. The Yemeni Armed Forces Media Center announced that the strike on al-Makh'af left up to 60 civilians killed or wounded, many of them children, following an earlier missile attack that targeted the village of al-Saleeha in the Abdan sub-district on the eastern outskirts of Taiz. Military officials reported that the projectile targeting al-Saleeha had been launched from the Mawiyah district, occurring alongside clashes in which Yemeni government forces repelled a ground assault in Habil al-Sarm.
Field monitors from the Taiz Rights Center independently verified the severe human toll of the strike on al-Makh'af, documenting that the missile directly hit a crowded local market. The center confirmed that seven civilians, including two children, were killed instantly, while 19 others, including four children, suffered shrapnel injuries. Regional reporting indicated that the explosion devastated commercial stalls and nearby dwellings, transforming the marketplace into a scene of severe destruction.
Documented Toll and Indiscriminate Tactics
According to an exhaustive 48-hour monitoring report released by the Taiz Rights Center, Houthi artillery, missile barrages, sniper fire, and landmines killed 10 civilians—including three children and two women—and injured 28 others, including 10 children and three women, between November 1 and 2. Documented incidents included artillery bombardment of residential blocks in the Old Airport neighborhood of al-Mudhaffar district, which killed an eight-year-old girl and her mother while injuring four other family members and neighbors.
Additional documented attacks included sniper fire targeting children in al-Misrakh, severely wounding a two-year-old toddler and a ten-year-old boy, as well as a landmine detonation in the al-Mawasit district that grievously wounded two young siblings while they tended livestock. Rights monitors emphasized that the deliberate launching of unguided artillery and heavy ballistic missiles into populated rural villages and open-air markets constitutes a grave breach of international humanitarian law and amounts to war crimes, demanding accountability for systematic attacks on non-combatants.
